The Big Event is the largest day of service at UNL! In 2006, the event's first year, almost 1,000 volunteers signed-up to participate in jobsites all over the community. In 2007, more than 1,500 volunteers participated in The Big Event.

We want The Big Event to continue to grow and reach the Lincoln community with more than 2,200 volunteers in 2008! To achieve this goal, we need you. All students, faculty, and staff are encouraged to sign up as a participant by March 11, 2008.

• Making a lasting difference in the Lincoln community
• Meeting new people
• Learning about the needs of Lincoln
• Connection with community agencies
• Building a nationally recognized service resume

What will I do?
It is our hope to assign students to job sites where their skills will be utilized, for example, matching construction management majors to sites where construction and structure upkeep is needed. Other activities you might be involved in include:

• Yard work and cleaning
• Painting and room decoration
• Meal preparation
• Sorting clothing and donations

Volunteers will have an opportunity to preference job sites in the morning, afternoon, or all day to better accommodate their schedules.

Safety
Safety is a high priority for everyone participating. Power tools will not be utilized by UNL volunteers. there will also be at lest four people serving each site. Team leaders will be appointed and receive training prior to The Big Event.
