Ongoing Mercy Housing Services, 2200 West O St., Lincoln, NE, is looking for a volunteer (or volunteers) to open up their network center on Saturdays and stay there 4-6 hours. The Mercy Housing network center is like a club house for the property, with 6 internet access computers, and cable TV available for the residents' use.

Volunteers are needed to unlock the doors and supervise the residents while the center is open to make sure there are no problems. On some Saturdays, crafts will be available and volunteers will help with that program, also. The volunteer (volunteers) would be needed from 12 p.m.-6 p.m., or 12 p.m.-4 p.m., on Saturdays.

December 15 and December 22 NEED VOLUNTEERS FOR CHILDCARE!!!

Circles of Care program at the Indian Center, 1100 Military Road, is looking for at least 2 volunteers, Dec. 15 and/or Dec. 22, 6 p.m.-9 p.m. (Wednesday evenings)for childcare during meetings at those times. Please call Cody at 402-438-5231, ext. 120 if you are interested in volunteering.

Oct.1-Dec. 24 The Salvation Army, 2625 Potter St., offers seasonal opportunities for volunteers. Opportunities for individuals or groups from Oct. 1-Dec. 24 include helping with Christmas programs, bell ringing, Angel Trees, helping with the Toy Shop, office work including mailings and data entry.

Ongoing Lux Center for the Arts has several Service-Learning opportunities available.
Teaching Assistant Volunteer--help instructor with art classes. Classes on Saturdays. Background check required. Work exchange credit available.
Studio Technician Volunteer--assist artists-in-residence in maintainance of ceramics, printmaking, painting and textile studios, includes mopping, tool/equipment cleaning, etc. Five hours per week required. Hours very flexible, work exchange credit available.
Administrative and Maintenance Volunteer--help with day-to-day administrative tasks and maintenance duties, includes office work and general cleaning, some outdoor work. M-F, 9-5 or Saturday 10-5. Must be able to volunteer on a bi-weekly basis.
Gallery Attendant Volunteer--Front desk help, works with staff and customers helping to oversee sales of artwork and maintenance of gallery space. Must have basic computer skills and friendly disposition. Dress is business casual. Hours available Tues-Fri, 11-5 or Sat 10-5, 3-4 hr. time slots. Must be able to volunteer on weekly basis. Volunteers receive discounts on merchandise and art classes after being involved on a regular basis.

Ongoing The Salvation Army, 2625 Potter St., offers several ongoing opportunities for individuals or groups:

Mentoring Elementary school students with homework, specifically Reading and Math, 3 p.m.-5 p.m., Mon-Fri.

Sports Mentoring--Mentor youth who have an interest in sports and recreation, interacting with youth through sports. Volunteers needed from 3 p.m.-8 p.m., Mon-Fri.

Assist in Food Pantry by stocking shelves, and packing boxes for distribution to needy families. Volunteers needed 2-4 hours a day, Mon-Fri. Having your group host/hold a food drive is also an option.

Ongoing Irving Recreation Center, 2010 Van Dorn Street, has opportunities for individuals or group volunteers to help with homework assistance for middle school students during its after-school programs.

Training is required, also volunteers must commit to at least one hour per week. Times available are Monday-Friday, 3 p.m.-4 p.m. or 3 p.m.-5 p.m. Applicants must complete the Lincoln Parks & Recreation volunteer application, which can be found at the Center (2010 Van Dorn St.), online (http://parks.lincoln.ne.gov) or the reception desk in Rm 200, Nebraska Union.
