Consortium Member Biography
JACQUIE LONNING, UNIVERSITY OF SOUTH DAKOTA
Jacquie Lonning has been the Student Action Coordinator in the Student Action Office (SAO) at the University of South Dakota since July of 2003. Jacquie’s duties in the SAO include working with the Action component of the Interdisciplinary Education & Action (IdEA) Program, coordinating alternative spring breaks and weekends, grant administration, assisting undergraduate research programs, and service-learning training for faculty and students. In her free time, Jacquie volunteers twice a week at a homeless shelter, coaches a girls’ softball team, and serves as the Alumni Advisor for South Dakota’s Hugh O’Brian Youth (HOBY) Leadership (among other things). Jacquie graduated from Buena Vista University (BA’03) where she also worked as the Interim Director of Community Service and Internships. While in college, Jacquie served three years as an AmeriCorps member with Project UNITE in Storm Lake, Iowa. During her service, she directed an after school program for primarily Latino & Laotian children living in a low-income area, created and implemented a mentoring & tutoring program, and served on an advisory board to the Offices of Community Service and Service-Learning at BVU. Jacquie has also been a member of several regional and national committees with Iowa AmeriCorps Member’s Council, the American Red Cross, Campus Outreach and Opportunities League (COOL), Character Counts, HOBY, Sioux Empire Homeless Coalition, Oxfam America, Campus Compact, and the Raise Your Voice Campaign.
