Consortium Member Biography

REV. M. JEAN HERIOT, HASTINGS COLLEGE

  M. Jean Heriot became the Associate Director Vocational Discernment and Service-Learning at Hastings College in July of 2003. She has taught service-learning classes and led students on January service interim trips and alternative spring break trips. She conducted a faculty training workshop on service-learning at Hastings College in the spring of 2004. Jean earned her Doctorate in Cultural Anthropology from the University of California-Los Angles; taught cultural anthropology and religion at the University of Tulsa, Hamilton College, and Santa Clara University; and did a post-doctoral fellowship at the Center for the Study of Religion at Princeton University. Following a vocational call to ordained ministry, Jean completed a Master of Divinity at Pacific School of Religion and was ordained as a community minister in the Unitarian Universalist Association of Congregations in 2001. Jean is the author of Blessed Assurance: Beliefs, Actions and the Experience of Salvation in a Carolina Baptist Church, is currently working on a second book about women's experiences in liberal religious communities, and has published articles in the fields of cultural anthropology, religion, and service-learning.
