PATRICK McKINLAY, MORNINGSIDE COLLEGE

Patrick F McKinlay earned his Ph.D. from the University of Notre Dame in Government and International Studies. In 1994, he joined the faculty of Morningside College in the Department of History and Political Science. Patrick has utilized service-learning pedagogies since joining Morningside.  From 2001-2004, he served as the Associate Dean for Siouxland Connections. In this position, Patrick represented the college in a variety of community outreach activities. In 2000, Patrick helped students organize a student civic engagement organization, the Morningside Civic Union. It gained particular momentum during 2003 and 2004, capped off with a voter registration drive that registered over half of the Morningside student body. Patrick has also served as the supervisor for the Morningside VISTA program that oversees service-learning across curricula. He still serves as the VISTA supervisor; the Morningside representative to both the Iowa Campus Compact and the Midwest Consortium; advises MCU; serves on the board of the Siouxland Y (current President); and in June 2005, he was named the chair of the Department of History and Political Science.
